Thurles Europe Direct Centre - European Mobility Week at Clonmel Library
European Mobility Week is an annual campaign on sustainable urban mobility, organised by the European Commission. Taking place from 16-22 September this year, the aim of the campaign is to promote sustainable transport measures and to invite the public to try out alternatives to car use.
For the week Tipperary Energy Agency (TEA) will hold an information display in Clonmel Library on all aspects of sustainable transport. Of particular interest, will be their ‘Clean Drive’ project. The aim of the project is to increase the sale of cleaner vehicles in Co. Tipperary. Local car dealers, businesses and people are invited to sign up for the Clean Drive Club. In addition, the TEA will be able to give advice on eco driving, electric cars and public transport options in Clonmel. ESB ECars will have an Electric Vehicle on display from 11am on Wednesday 21st also. Come along and check it out.
Ireland has adopted ambitious EU energy targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020. One of the main challenges to this is the increasing volume of travel by private cars. Now is your chance to find out what alternatives exist to taking the car.
This display is presented by Tipperary Energy Agency and Europe Direct Information Centre, Tipperary Libraries. This action has received funding from the European Commission.
Thurles Europe Direct Centre - Shop Safely Online this Christmas
The European Consumer Centre Ireland will hold a talk on shopping online on Wednesday 9th November, 4.30 p.m. in Thurles Library. In the run up to Christmas more and more people are turning to the Internet to do their shopping. But do you know your rights when shopping across borders? This talk will arm you with the necessary information to make your shopping online experience a safe and enjoyable one.
A recent survey on online shopping shows that 4 out of every 5 European consumers plan to buy as much as or more than last year on the internet. And in Ireland, consumers intend to spend over a third of their Christmas budget on items from online stores. But some of the sites you can see online are not what they seem. How can you be sure a website is secure? Everyone is watching the pennies more than ever right now but we all still want to find the perfect Christmas gift at the right price. Shopping online can offer significant savings, choice and value for money from the comfort of your own home, but there are dangers so it is important to be aware of the risks and follow a few simple tips.
To find out more about making your online shopping experience a safe one, come to the European Consumer Centre presentation on Wednesday 9th November at 4.30 p.m. in Thurles Library. Or call into Europe Direct Information Centre at Thurles Library for a leaflet or check out the European Consumer Centre Ireland website at www.eccireland.ie.
