Commission publishes 9th post-programme surveillance mission report on Ireland

The Commission has published the findings of the ninth post-programme surveillance mission to Ireland (14-18 May). The report summary states: “Underlying domestic demand continues to be supported by favourable labour market developments and strong construction investment. Unemployment is falling rapidly towards pre-crisis levels.” It draws attention however to the risks associated with Brexit as well as the housing shortage and housing and rental costs. The post programme surveillance assesses Ireland’s capacity to repay the loans granted under the former EU-IMF financial assistance programme and, if necessary, to recommend corrective actions.
