Commission publishes guidance on new EU data protection rules

The Commission has published guidance on the new EU data protection rules that come into force across the EU on 25 May. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will give people more control over their personal data and make it easier to access. The regulation includes a right to be forgotten and a right to data portability as well as a right to know when one’s data has been hacked. Data protection safeguards will also have to be built into products and services and privacy-friendly default settings will be the norm – for example on social networks or mobile apps. There is also flexibility for small and medium enterprises.
