March 27, 1957 – the hall of the Musei Capitolini in Rome: Treaties establishing European Economic Community (EEC) and European Atomic Energy Community (EUTRAOM) are signed by the leaders of six European countries.
In his new production ‘60 years since the Treaty of Rome – 60 years of Europe’, renowned political scientist and lecturer, Ingo Espenschied takes us on an exciting, live, multimedia journey through time on the big screen. This presentation shows the convoluted history of Europe’s last six decades.
What did the signatories of the Treaty of Rome achieve? How has Europe developed, what are its strengths and weaknesses, and where do we go from here? These questions and more will be addressed during this remarkable presentation, which Ballinasloe will host first at 9:30am then at 11:00AM (fully booked), on March 21st. This second session will be followed by a panel debate on the topic of ‘The Future of the EU’.
