Event Description

This conference on 13 March 2018 will celebrate the centenary of Irish women winning the right to vote in 1918 and raise awareness of the role of politics, power and gender in everyday life.

The target audience will be senior cycle secondary school students who are taking the new pilot course “Politics and Society”, young people from the age of 16 and upwards and also members of the public. The format will be 2 panel of 3 speakers, each of which will be followed by a panel discussion with a Q & A session.

Speakers will include Mary McAuliffe and Diarmaid Ferriter from UCD, Theresa Reidy from UCC, Senator Ivana Bacik, Niamh Gallagher from Women for Election and Louise Bunyan of DCM Learning. Orla O’Connor, Director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland will moderate the conference.
