Event Description

This event was inspired by EU policy of promotion of STEM subjects, which states ‘Statistics that show that people with qualifications in STEM subjects have better chance of employment than those without, and also have good average earnings. inGenious is the European Coordinating Body in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education. It is a joint initiative launched by European Schoolnet and the European Roundtable of Industrialists (ERT) aiming to reinforce young European’s interest in science education and careers and thus address anticipated future skills gaps within the European Union’.
In this workshop
STEM AWARE from Northern Ireland facilitated this workshop which explored maths, physics and chemistry through experiments and hands on activities with local children. The children were stimulated and entertained while being introduced to the magic of science and hopefully will remember this as they make future subject choices at school.
Children were introduced to Robbie the Summer reading programme Robot who thanked them for feeding and recharging him during the summer and encouraged the children to continue STEM subject reading in the future. The children were then treated to an hour long STEM aware workshop followed by prize-giving for the best robots. Children were all given an EDIC bag with goodies and EU publications/passport & stories. 40 children and 40 adults attended.
