Event Description

On 18th September EDIC Donegal and Gaeltacht celebrated Culture Night with a host of intercultural events in Central Library, Letterkenny.
Artists included:
The Donegal Polish community who entertained with Polish poetry and music featuring Polish folk group ‘The Hazels’.
Native American Indian Waylon Gary White Deer who spoke on the culture of the Choctaw Nation and their links with Ireland. Waylon also treated the audience to plus some Indian chant, which he says tells stories & is not stricly singing.
In this EU Year for Development Waylon spoke about his culture as a member of the Choctaw Nation and the very early development aid of $170 which the Chocktaw Nation sent to Ireland during the Irish Famine, despite their own hardship.
Waylon also put on a show of his own culture Chocktaw art which was be on display in the library during the week of Culture Night.
The evening was rounded off with Donegal folk culture with songs and conversation by Donegal singer/songwriter John McNutt.
This evening is always a great favourite with Donegal community and is an opportunity to sample the different cultures within the modern Donegal landscape.
The events in EDIC were very popular with 107 people attending, many coming especially to see these artists.
