Event Description

Workshop 1: EDIC Donegal and Gaeltacht staff again took part in the EU Xmas Tree Exchange. This involves children from all over the EU making Christmas Tree decorations and posting them to other schools and EDICs in their group. This results in an exchange of Xmas decorations throughout Europe between schools & EDICs.
This year in EDIC Donegal and Gaeltacht, we worked with young people from Cara House as well as Scoil Phadraig, Gaoth Dobhair and St Oran’s in Buncrana. In Central Library a group of young adults came down for Xmas decoration making workshops throughout November and we then posted off their decorations in December.
The young people loved doing this. They also got to open the parcels when decorations arrived in EDIC Letterkenny and were very excited at this. This makes these young people aware that they are part of an extended EU community and brings them into contact with different EU customs and traditions which are the same yet different. It encourages a sense of EU citizenship and active citizenship in our young people.
Staff in Letterkenny then coordinated the sending of decorations throughout Europe.
Decorations were then displayed on a special EU Christmas Tree in the Library.
