Event Description

The European Consumer Centre in Ireland is delighted to announce the launch of three new information leaflets for consumers.

The leaflets are titled Travelling to Spain, Online Shopping, and Summer Survival Guide and are designed to provide practical information and advice to consumers looking to plan their summer holidays or shop on the internet.

Irish consumers alone are expected to spend up to €12.7 billion online by 2020. Independent travel bookings already account for 118 million trips in Europe each year. With this in mind, it is more important than ever for consumers to be aware of their rights when shopping online or travelling in Europe, and the leaflets provide a comprehensive overview of their rights and entitlements.

These are updated copies of earlier publications, modified to take into account changes in the law following the entry into force of the Consumer Rights Directive and reductions in EU roaming charges.

To mark the launch, ECC Ireland, in partnership with Europe Direct Blanchardstown, will be hosting an event at Europe Direct’s offices in Blanchardstown Library on Wednesday 18th June at 11am.

In attendance will be the Minister for European Affairs, Paschal Donohue, and a primary school class from Scoil Oilobheir in the local area. Some light refreshments will be served and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Grace Duffy, Press and Communications officer at ECC Ireland, said of the updated leaflets, “We receive frequent enquiries from consumers looking for advice on their rights when shopping online or travelling in Europe. These leaflets are designed to provide a clear, comprehensive, and easy-to-follow guide to consumer protections, allowing consumers to make more informed decisions and seek better value for money.”
