Event Description

Mallow Library EDIC is hosting the launch of a farm safety book in the EDIC premises on Wednesday 11 May 2016, at 11am. The issue of farm safety is very important, with the fatality rate in agriculture far higher than any other economic sector. A large proportion of all fatal workplace accidents occur in agriculture, even though a small proportion of the workforce is employed in farming. Therefore any initiative that aims to reduce such fatalities is to be welcomed.

Caroline Casey, Cork County Council’s Water Safety Officer will co-ordinate the launch – with Mr Padraig Higgins actually launching the book. Padraig will read a chapter from the book, followed by a short question and answer session with pupils from Ballygown N.S. There will also be a number of other speakers – Cork County Mayor John Paul O’Shea, Ms. Ann Baker, IFA Farm Family Safety Group and Mr John Leech, CEO Irish Water Safety. As well as the offical launch, a number of schools will perform various musical pieces – Loreto Secondary School Choir, Fermoy; Mitchelstown CBS and Scoil Ghobnatan, Mallow. The County Mayor and CEO of Irish Water Safety will also present water safety flags to Mallow Library, Schull Leisure Centre and Baltimore Leisure Centre.
