Event Description

Prof Fiona Doohan from the School of Biology and Environmental Science, in the College of Life Sciences, UCD, Dublin, gave a fascinating presentation on her research into sustainable disease control in food crops to the students of PCC Falcarragh, Co Donegal.
Fiona’s department in UCD is funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme for Research & Development. Fiona gave a presentation on the funding she and all Horizon 2020 researchers receive as well as highlighting the social aspects of being a part of the large Horizon 2020 team. She then moved on to her own work in the field of research into plant diseases and sustainable disease control.
Approx 60 students attended the presentation. They were very attentive and participated well during the question and answer session at the end of the presentation. All were amazed at how many researchers are funded under this programme as wella s how broad the fields of research are.
Fiona has agreed to return to give more presentations in Donegal in 2016.
The EDIC manager presented 2 students who asked good questions with research diaries.
