Event Description

Ardee Library in conjunction with Europe Direct Information Centre at
Dundalk Library & An Garda Siochana will be running a joint
project in Ardee Library taking place during November.
The project is aimed at students of 4th class and upwards and there will be 4 schools involved in this years project: Ardee Educate Together NS, Monastery Boys NS, Scoil Mhuire na Trocaire and Darver NS.

The theme of the project is ‘My Place in Europe’ with a strong focus on social and cultural awareness, pride in ones community and the need for respect for all members of ones community.

The project will kick off with a very exciting session entitled ‘CSI at the Library’. Specialist members of An Garda Siochana will explain to the children all about forensic investigations, finger printing, DNA collection.

Subsequent sessions will involve Community Gardai speaking to the children about the importance of community and of the need for social and cultural awareness. Some members of St Josephs Day Care Centre, Ardee will come along to speak to the children about their lives and what community means to them and the changes they have witnessed over their lives.

The children will get a chance to reflect on what they have learned and the final session will see teams from each school  making a verbal presentation on the topic of ‘My Place in Europe’  to a panel of Judges.

The aim of the group project is to instil in the students a sense of
belonging to their community, to be aware of what it means to be both Irish
and European.
Prizes are funded by the Europe Direct Information Centre.
