Event Description

programmeOrganised by Europe Direct Information Centre, Ballinasloe in conjunction with the Centre for Global Women’s Studies at NUIG.

The event is taking place in the Institute for Life Course and Society, NUI Galway and will be opened by UNESCO Chair Pat Dolan.

The objective is to provide a public forum on development topics, international volunteering and to inform the citizen of the work being done in overseas development on their behalf by the European Commission.

The seminar is being organised in response to the European Year for Development 2015, #eyd2015, a European Commission designated theme to nurture and engage development themes.

..This process will succeed only if it is nurtured by the energy, creativity and legitimacy of a wide range of social actors. Parliaments and citizens must not avert their gaze. They must hold governments to account to ensure that decisions are truly based on the needs of the people, including those who are marginalised and most vulnerable, our sisters and brothers in the human family.

President Michael D. Higgins, Dublin Castle, Launch of EYD2015.
