Event Description

Seriously Now!

A confessional comedy performance by literary translator and writer Petra Kindler on the joys and perils of cross-cultural creative work, on surviving homemade hurricanes – and on the challenging concept of laughing with a German.

“Petra Kindler’s one woman show was a highlight for me. Her wit, insight and comic timing was impeccable …!”(Mary Grehan, Novelist)

“…like an express cross-section through human experience. It was warm, witty, touching and delivered with performance ability.”(T.V. Honan, Director Spraoi Festival Waterford)

Petra Kindler worked as a Creative Director in one of Hamburg’s major ad agencies before going freelance and moving to Waterford in 2000. She has since made a name for herself translating literature, including Sebastian Barry’s novel “On Canaan’s Side” and “The Forgotten Waltz” by Anne Enright. Petra is also a freelance dramaturge and playwright with award-winning theatre company “Cactus”. Her latest play, a comedy with and about migrants in Germany, premiered in February 2014. Petra’s passion for comedy culminated in the surprise success of her one-woman show “Seriously Now!”, first performed as part of Waterford Writers’ Weekend 2013, during which, according to one arts reviewer, she “held the audience in the palm of her hand.”
