Event Description

Post Troika: Where now for Ireland in 2014?

The Waterford Europe Direct Information Centre, based at Central Library, Lady Lane, will host a special EU Election event at 2.00pm on Thursday 16th January 2014. Titled “Post Troika: Where now for Ireland in 2014?”, this event will be run in partnership with the Waterford College of Further Education (WCFE) and will take place in the splendid setting of the City’s Theatre Royal. The general theme of this event will be Europe’s place in the world and the aim is to encourage the public to think and talk about EU issues and, of course, to encourage them to get out and vote in the European Parliament Elections to be held in May 2014.

Shane Dunphy of WCFE will chair the event and will interview Mary O’Rourke, former Fianna Fail T.D. and Minister, and a panel discussion on the issues that are raised will follow. The panel will consist of, among others, Mr. Tim Hayes, Head of Information/Communication at the European Commission Representation in Ireland and well known economist and Waterford native, Mr. Jim Power. A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion. Information stands will also be available on the day to answer any further questions.

This event is open to the public and admission is free but advance booking is essential. To book a place just call 051 849975 or email europedirect@waterfordcity.ie. Doors open from 1.00pm. Refreshments will be served on the day.
