Ireland is the top destination for Irish tourists

Almost half (48%) of all tourists in Ireland in 2016 were Irish residents according to new Eurostat figures. Although on average their visits tended to be short (2.6 days) Irish visitors still accounted for 28.3% of all tourism nights in Ireland in 2016. The next largest groups were from the USA (11.4%), the UK (11%) and Germany (5.8%). For Irish tourists travelling abroad, the top destinations remained Spain (18.%), the UK (11.5%) and the USA (7.5%).
