Ireland leads EU-funded project on urban food-sharing schemes

Trinity College Dublin is coordinating the EU-funded ShareCity research project that’s analyzing urban food-sharing schemes and examining how they embrace modern technologies like the internet and smart phones. The project, which has been granted €1.86 million in EU funding, found that there has been an exponential rise in ICT-mediated food sharing since 2008, which coincides with the increasing accessibility of digital technologies such as smart phones and tablets. Anna Davies of TCD said: “The project will work with sharing initiatives, local communities and city stakeholders to co-design tools that can identify and support the most sustainable food-sharing practices.”
