Ireland’s unemployment rate drops below 6% in April

Ireland’s unemployment rate fell to 5.9% in April 2018, down from 6.8% in April 2017. Across the EU, unemployment was also down – to 7.1% in April 2018 from 7.8% in April 2017 and the lowest since September 2008. Unemployment was lowest in the Czech Republic (2.2%), Malta (3%) and Germany (3.4%) and highest in Greece (20.8% in Feb 2018). Ireland’s rate of youth unemployment was also down – to 12% in April 2018 from 14.9% in April 2017. This compares to an EU average of 15.3%.
