One in three Irish people never exercise or play sport

A new Eurobarometer report reveals that the share of Irish people who never exercise or play sport is among the lowest in the EU at 34% and exactly half the share in Bulgaria, Greece and Portugal (all 68%). The EU average is 46% dropping to 15% in Sweden and 13% in Finland. Irish people are also more likely (53%) to exercise or play sport regularly (13%) or with some regularity (40%) than the EU average of 40%. The survey also shows that 35% of Irish people spend over five and a half hours sitting every day compared to an EU average of 41% and a high of 67% in The Netherlands.
