Once upon a time . . . Our folktales reflect our culture, our dreams and our hopes, as groups of children from local schools learned on 10th June in Ballinasloe library. German storyteller Simone Schuemmelfeder and Irish teller Michael Phelan from Storygate brought the class groups on a journey through European myths and folktales, and even through stories from further afield, to Syria.

The children were treated to tales of wise fools, enchanted princesses and, in a time when it is needed most in Europe, tales of hospitality. The tales challenged the children to ask: What is different in our folktales, what is similar? What can we learn from each other and from the tales our people told over many years?

Accompanied by their charming hand-puppets, Simone and Michael brought these tales alive for their rapt audience in this storytelling and puppetry show.
