Strings Festival Success in Ballinasloe Library

Ballinasloe Library and Europe Direct Information Centre was delighted to play host to the first Strings Festival this year. Taking place over the course of the 14th and 15th of July, the two days were packed full of events and featured spectacular performances from a diverse range of artists from a wide array of genres.

The weekend opened with Tyrone-based singer-songwriter Lauren Bird giving a short introductory performance and a ukulele workshop at the local youth center, and over the next 6 sessions in the Church Gallery event space, festival-goers were treated to a vibrant mix of performers, from the classical stylings of RTÉ Quartet in Residence ConTempo, to upcoming rock and blues band The Deans, the brilliant choral sound of Athlone A Capella,  renowned classical guitarist John Feeley, and a virtuoso performance by local opera singer Rachel Goode.

Plenty of local talent was also featured, with the Ballinasloe Town Band, Blossom Harp School and Comhaltas all treating the crowd to short sessions. In all, there were over 850 attendees to the free event, the first of its kind in Ballinasloe town.
